What is an NVQ – Diploma Level 6?
The NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice is a vocational qualification designed for professionals aiming to advance their careers in health and safety management. This work-based qualification allows learners to develop and demonstrate their competence in managing health and safety procedures within their workplace. Unlike traditional classroom-based courses, the NVQ Level 6 is delivered remotely, offering flexibility to complete assessments in a home or office setting. Throughout the course, learners receive guidance and support from experienced mentors, including Chartered Members of IOSH (CMIOSH), ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
The NVQ – Diploma level 6 is equivalent to the NEBOSH diploma, however the NVQ has no exams and no classroom time.
Who is the NVQ – Diploma Level 6 for?
The NVQ – Diploma level 6 is for people who are engaged in a safety role and wish to further their knowledge and expertise in the field. It is one of the common pathways to CMIOSH and the consultants register. The City & Guilds Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice and the ProQual Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice are both mapped to the latest IOSH Blueprint. Typically you will need to hold a level 3 qualification to be able to proceed with this course. If you are already working in a health and safety role with significant responsibility, you may be able to jump straight to level 6, however this must be agreed with our team before enrolment.
Can you upgrade your NVQ Level 5 qualification?
Yes – if you have obtained NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Health and Safety, speak to us about upgrading your qualification to the current NVQ – Diploma Level 6 standard.
What else is included with your NVQ course?
All of our NVQ learners will receive access to T100 Essentials – a trial version of our T100 Risk Manager health and safety software. T100 Essentials allows you to get to grips with some of the software’s most useful features including risk assessment templates, checklists, incident management tools and health and safety policy templates. Your tutor will be able to provide you with access to the system.
How is the NVQ – Diploma Level 6 assessed?
The NVQ Level 6 Diploma employs a portfolio-based assessment method, eliminating the need for traditional examinations. Learners are required to gather and submit evidence demonstrating their competence across various health and safety tasks. This evidence may include risk assessments, safety audits, policy documents, and reflective reports. Assessors review the submitted materials, providing feedback and guidance to ensure that all learning outcomes are met. Upon successful completion, learners receive certification that reflects their proficiency in health and safety management.
Once you have fulfilled all of the requirements, set down by City & Guilds or ProQual, one of our internal verifiers will check your work and sign it off as complete. You will then be awarded the qualification.
How long is the NVQ – Diploma Level 6 course?
The NVQ – Diploma Level 6 must be completed within two years, but typically takes about 12 months to complete.
What do I need before starting the NVQ – Diploma Level 6?
To enroll in the NVQ Level 6 Diploma, candidates should possess foundational knowledge in health and safety, typically evidenced by holding a NEBOSH General Certificate or an equivalent qualification. What is included with the NVQ – Diploma Level 6?
When you have completed the qualification, this will open the door for you to gain Chartered Member status. When you have this status, you can then begin the process towards gaining CMIOSH status.

Will my NVQ – Diploma Level 6 qualification be valid outside the UK?
The ProQual NVQ qualification is valid for working internationally. Please note that the City & Guilds Diploma is valid for use in the UK only. Please note that if you are based outside of the UK, you or your organisation must have a UK office or UK-based address available.
